Among the many peoples the watchers have catalogued across this world's long unfolding, few announce their temperament as plainly as the Odovhar. These are massive, semi-aquatic brutes, built along the broad and blubbered lines of the walrus-kin they clearly descend from—thick-hided, barrel-chested, and often exceeding the height of a tall human by a considerable margin before accounting for the sheer bulk layered atop that frame. Their skin runs in tones of grey-brown and weathered ochre, thick enough to shrug off cold that would fell a human in minutes, and thickest at the neck and shoulders, where it folds into heavy ridges that other races have likened, not always kindly, to armor grown rather than worn. A pair of great tusks curves downward from the jaw of every Odovhar, yellowed with age and often scarred or chipped from long use as both tool and weapon, and small, deep-set eyes peer out from a face built more for enduring the world than reading it closely.

The Odovhar are ill-tempered by nature, a trait the tome records without exaggeration or apology, for it is confirmed by nearly every account that exists of them. Patience is not a quality the Odovhar cultivate, and slights—real or merely perceived—are met swiftly and without much interest in proportion. A shoving match over a poor catch of fish and a genuine territorial incursion may draw, from an Odovhar, precisely the same order of response. This has made them poor neighbors to nearly everyone who has attempted to settle near their waters, and poorer negotiating partners still, for an Odovhar insulted mid-bargain is far more likely to end the conversation with a fist than a counteroffer.

  • SIZE +1: Odovhar are tall and broad, adding +1 to their Toughness.
  • VERY STRONG: Odovhar start with Strength d8, increasing their maximum Strength to d12+2.
  • TOUGH: Odovhar’ starting Vigor is d6, increasing the limit to d12+1.
  • BIG: Their muscular frame causes Odovhar to subtract two when using equipment designed for smaller beings, and they cannot wear humanoid armor or clothing. Equipment, armor, food and clothing cost double the listed price.
  • MEAN: Taught that might makes right, Odovhar struggle with diplomacy and tact. They have the Mean Hindrance.
  • AQUATIC: Odovhar cannot drown in water and move at their full Pace when swimming.

  • LOW LIGHT VISION: Odovhar are used to the darkness of the depths. They ignore penalties for Dim and Dark illumination.
  • TOUGHNESS: Life in the depths of their watery world has made Odovhar flesh dense and resilient. Add +1 to their Toughness.
